HK Practice Moot for the Investment Arbitration Moot
Dear students and coaches,
The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) is pleased to invite you to the fifth Hong Kong Practice Moot for the 11th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot (HK Practice Moot). The event will be held at HKIAC’s state of the art facilities at Exchange Square in Central, Hong Kong on 22 & 23 February 2018.
The event is structured as a skill-building opportunity in which each team receives constructive, candid feedback from arbitrators on their performance in the oral arguments. Teams will be free to observe other teams’ hearings and gain valuable insight from the critiques of a number of arbitrators, each an active practitioner of international arbitration in Hong Kong. Aside from hearings, the one-and-a-half-day event will feature a welcome tea reception and a visit to one of the top international law firms in Hong Kong, providing teams with a unique opportunity to make contact with some of the top arbitrators and practitioners of Hong Kong’s robust arbitration community.
HKIAC is committed to the growth and development of the next generation of arbitrators. For the 2018 HK Practice Moot, we are pleased to introduce the “HKIAC Capacity Building Scholarship” to be awarded to the two participants. Please click "Read More" for details.
Why Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is one of the world’s leading arbitral seats, both regionally and globally. One of the hallmarks of arbitration in Hong Kong, which is unrivalled in Asia, is our thriving arbitration community. The HK Practice Moot gives teams relevant experience in the practice of investment arbitration and exposure to Hong Kong as one of Asia’s premier venues for alternative dispute resolution.
Why investment arbitration?
The number of investment disputes before international arbitral tribunals has increased significantly over the last two decades. Investment protection forms an integral part of international economic law. Participation in a student moot competition strongly enhances students’ knowledge of international investment law and its dispute resolution mechanisms through their application to a concrete case problem and trains law students in alternative methods and tools of dispute resolution potentially required in their future careers.
Whilst we are hosting this event in anticipation of the 11th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot, all teams with an interest in investment arbitration or in the arbitral community of Hong Kong are welcome, regardless of their plans to participate in Frankfurt.
Please click "Read More" to access the web page of the programme as well as the application form.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hong Kong!
